TUSCOLA — John Allen Edgecombe, 87, of Tuscola passed away at 8:44 a.m. Monday (July 31, 2017) at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Celebration of life services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017, at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 S. Main St., Tuscola, with the Rev. Mike Drake officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Graveside services with military rites accorded will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4, 2017, at the Tuscola Township Cemetery, Tuscola.
John was born on Dec. 11, 1929, in New Orleans, La., the son of John Ira and Mary Caroline Woolverton Edgecombe. He married Sharon P. Busker Campbell on Aug. 7, 2010, in Southhaven, Miss. She survives.
Also surviving are his daughter, Julia Walker of New Orleans, La.; grandson, Scott Willis; and sisters, Mary Keller of St. Louis, Mo., and Betty Bragg of Ponchatoula, La. Other survivors include his extended family, Tracie(Michael) Harp of Tuscola, Tyree (Leslie) Campbell of Bloomington, Ill., Brett Campbell of Chenoa
and Paige Tharge of El Paso, Ill.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Kevin Edgecombe.
John served his country for over 20 years during the Korean War and Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. He retired with the rank of gunnery sergeant. John then worked for many years for a supply company.
He was a member of the United Church of Atwood, VFW, American Legion and Tuscola Moose Lodge. John was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shrine. He loved watching John Wayne movies and was an avid sports fan.
