Harold J. Schriefer Sr.

GRANT PARK – Harold J. Schriefer Sr., 83, of Grant Park passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family at 3:28 p.m. Sunday, July 16, 2017.
Visitation was from 1 to 9 p.m. July 19 at Hub Funeral Home in Grant Park and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. services on July 20 at Grant Park United Methodist Church. The Rev. Marsha Collins officiated. Private inurnment was in Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Harold was born on Oct. 31, 1933, to Olive Frey Schriefer and Herman "Happy" Schriefer in Danforth.
Harold is survived by wife, Amelia A. Hackl Schriefer; children, Justin (Rebecca) Schriefer Jr., Celeste (William) Sluis, Matthew Schriefer, Brett (Lesa Welauch) Schriefer of Grant Park, and Gregory Schriefer of New York, N.Y.; grandchildren, Amelia Sluis (Ray) Isbell, Sarah Sluis (Sam) Gray, Lucas Sluis, Jessica Schriefer (Randy) Dykstra, Justin Schriefer III, Alyse Schriefer and Alexa Schriefer; great-grandchildren, Charley Rose Isbell, Hank Isbell and Noah Dykstra; brothers, Korean War veteran Melvin (Sunja) Schriefer of Alvin and Korean War veteran Gordon (Judy) Schriefer of St. Joseph; sister, Olive Rae (Bill) Talkington of Eldorado; and sister-in-law, Susan Schriefer of DeMotte, Ind.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Ericka Lynn Schriefer; brother, World War II veteran Donald Schriefer; and sisters, Mardell (Nick) Regas, Luella (Ray) Duchene and Dorothy Crawford.
Harold was a Korean War veteran, the owner and operator of Schriefer Excavating Inc., a Gold Card Union member of Local 150 Operating Engineers, and a Master Mason for more than 50 years.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Kankakee Valley, Bev Roberts Foundation or Ericka Lynn Schriefer Memorial Scholarship
