MONTICELLO — Paul Edward Doane Jr., 85, of Monticello passed away peacefully on Monday (July 17, 2017) at his home on the farm he had lived on and loved for nearly 60 years.
Celebration of life services will be at a later date. The family entrusted Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with arrangements.
Memorials may be directed to Faith in Action or the Centerville Methodist Church.
Paul is survived by his three children, Becky (Bill) Herb, Bruce (Saundra) Doane and Brian (Denise) Doane; grandchildren, Matthew (Erica) Herb, Joe Doane, Kristen (Will) Holmes, Nichole Doane, Jonathan Doane, Patrick (Tey) Herb, Elizabeth Herb, Dara Ella and Rachel Doane; and great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Cafin, Daniel Sullivan and Sydney Herb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia Ann Doane; and their son, Brett Paul Doane.
Paul was born on Sept. 22, 1931, in Decatur. He worked at Mississippi Valley Steel in Decatur in the early years of his career and finished out his career at Kurland Steel in Urbana.
Farming was the joy of his life and he loved a good political debate. He served on the Sangamon Township Board and was a Mason.
He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and always enjoyed listening to the Boston Pops Fourth of July concert celebration. He was also a member of the Centerville Methodist Church.
Paul will be dearly missed by his family and his friends.
