Woodrow Wilson Brookey - Urbana Lodge

URBANA – Woodrow Wilson "Woody" Brookey, 99, of Urbana passed away peacefully at his daughter's house in California on April 11, 2017.
Woody was born on Feb. 18, 1918, in Ozark, Ark.
He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 70 years, Helen as well as two brothers, Frank and Brown, and two sisters, Geneva and Dorothy.
He is survived by two daughters, Sandra and Marsha, and a sister, Juanita. Also surviving are four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, along with nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Woody enlisted in the Air Force and proudly served from 1942-1946, moving up in the ranks to staff sergeant when he was honorably discharged.
He worked at the U of I as the equipment manager for the men's basketball team for 31 years and loved every day of his job.
He was a life member of the Masonic Lodge at Urbana Lodge #157. He was a member of the Philo Road Church of Christ and served the Lord in various positions over his 40 plus years of membership.
This man was such a kind, humble and gentle soul. He is truly loved by his family and friends. Words cannot express the sorrow we are all feeling.
The family would like to convey a special thank-you to his friends who were always looking out for him, the staff at Prairie Winds of Urbana, Carle Hospice in Urbana and Hinds Hospice in Fresno, Calif. We are so grateful for the care and kindness shown to Woody.
A memorial service will be held in Illinois at a later date.
