BEMENT — Charles E. Baker Jr., 82, of Bement passed away at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday (April 11, 2017) at Kirby Medical Center, Monticello.
Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, April 15, at the Bement United Methodist Church, 249 N. Piatt St., Bement. Pastor Amos Dillman and Pastor Jeff Bealmear will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church. Masonic services will be at 11:45 a.m. Burial with military honors by the Albert Parker American Legion Post 620 will be in the Bement Township Cemetery, Bement.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Illinois Masonic Outreach, Harbor Light Hospice Program or the Bement EMTs.
Charlie was born on Dec. 19, 1934, in Decatur, a son of Charles E. and Leta Smith Baker Sr. He married Ramo na Darlene Campbell on Oct. 27, 1956, in Monticello, and she survives of Bement.
Surviving children include Rick (Etta) Baker of Bement, Randall (Carol) Baker of Savoy and Pam (Doug) McDonald of Mount Vernon, as well as seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Tyler Auth; and two brothers, Donald R. and Kenneth Baker.
Charlie was a member of the Bement United Methodist Church and was custodian there for over 10 years, a 50-year member of the Albert Parker American Legion Post 620, a U.S. Army veteran, the Bement Masonic Lodge 365 AF& AM. He was a 50-year Mason with the Chapter Council and Commandry. Charlie was on the Piatt County plat committee, ASCS.
He loved racing gocarts, pool, bowling and playing euchre. Charlie just loved to be around people. He loved a good party but his greatest love was watching his grandchildren play sports.
