CHAMPAIGN – Joseph W. Anderson, 89, of Champaign passed away at 8:10 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 31, 2017) at the Champaign-Urbana Rehab Center in Savoy.
He was born on Dec. 25, 1927, in Champaign to Joshua and Isabell Smith Anderson.
He married Neva Chambers on May 14, 1949, in Monticello and she preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 1991.
He is survived by his daughters, Carol (Paul) Grammer of Bloomington, Brenda Anderson of Naples, Fla., and Mindy Cartwright of Butler, Ga.
He then married Barbara Butts on June 27, 1992, in Champaign and she survives, along with one stepson, Ronald (Patty) Butts of Kenosha, Wis., and four stepdaughters, Donna Skinner of Boston, Mass., Darlene Lynn of Mahomet, Diane (John) Hendricks of Mesa, Ariz., and Debbie (John) Miller of Champaign.
Also surviving are 20 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Gerald (Ollie) Puckett and Ronald (Sharon) Puckett, both of Tucson, Ariz.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a charter member of Windsor Road Christian Church and was currently a member of Mahomet Christian Church. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason.
He owned and operated Lincoln Land Moving and Storage Company in Champaign for 55 years.
Visitation for Joseph will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at the Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy, with graveside services to follow at 11:30 a.m. at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign, with Pastor David Johnson officiating; military honors will be rendered.
