HOOPESTON – Randall "Randy" Kent Garner, 64, of Hoopeston passed away at 5:20 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, 2016, at Carle Hoopeston Regional Health Center.
Randy was born on Dec. 1, 1952, in Danville, the son of Donald Beckham and Maxine L. (Allison) Garner. He married Barbara Shuler in August 1978, in Hoopeston. She preceded him in death on Jan. 4, 2010.
He is survived by his mother, Maxine Garner of Hoopeston; sister, Sandra (Earl) Thompson of Hoopeston; three aunts, Charlotte Marko of Hoopeston, Barbara Lewis of Hoopeston and Beverly Joan Garner of Danville; nephew, Colby (Julie) Thompson of Marion; special friend, Victoria Hauersperger of Hoopeston; and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father and wife.
Randy graduated from Hoopeston High School in 1971. After high school, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1972 to 1976. He later graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, with a degree in Agriculture Business.
Randy was the owner/operator of Bacca Cigar in Champaign from 1997 to 2014. Randy was a former Mason and past member of the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.
He enjoyed construction, duck hunting, reading, putting together models, listening to music and spending time with his family.
A celebration of life memorial service for Randall "Randy" K. Garner will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 12, 2016, at Blurton Funeral Home, with Pastor Bob Beckman officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384 and VFW Post #4826 at the funeral home. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. According to his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and burial will be held at a later date in Floral Hill Cemetery.
