Robert Eugene Vaughn


URBANA – Robert Eugene "Luke" Vaughn, 88, of Urbana passed away at 9:40 a.m. Friday (Oct. 7, 2016) at the Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana. The Rev. Steve Diehl will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 71, Urbana.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Masonic rites conducted by Urbana Masonic Lodge No. 157 AF&AM.
Luke was born on Aug. 22, 1928, in Champaign, the son of George and Celeste Wilson Vaughn. He married Delora E. Fletcher on Oct. 21, 1952, in Las Cruces, N.M. She died on March 18, 1999.
Survivors include three children, Carol M. "Shelly" (Jeff) Baine of Urbana, Patrick (Pam) Vaughn of Ivesdale and Molly (Jamie) Borton of Rantoul; eight grandchildren, Stephanie (Anthony) Moffitt, Jessica (Vince) D'Agostino, Casey Rayburn, Brea Baine, Tiffany Baine, Emily Baine, Shelby Baine and Allison Vaughn; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Luke retired from Illinois Power Company after 43 years as a lineman.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Luke was a member of the Lutheran Church of Mahomet, Urbana Masonic Lodge No. 157 AF&AM, AASR Valley of Danville, Eastern Star and True Kindred, IBEW No. 51, American Legion Post 24, Champaign, and the VFW Post 5520, Champaign.
He enjoyed many years of camping with "Del" and family at "Sherwood Forrest," playing euchre, gardening, grilling, cold beer with friends and in later years playing bingo.
A very special thanks to the Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy, Schapers B Unit, for the loving, quality care shown Luke the last several months of his life. He was shown respect as a veteran and loved like a family member by staff.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy, or the Sunshine Daycare at Champaign County Nursing Home.
