MAHOMET – Rembert T. (Jack) Gladin, 86, passed away peacefully on Monday (Aug. 22, 2016) at his residence, Bridle Brook Assisted Living, Mahomet.
He was born on Dec. 8, 1929, in Sandersville, Ga., son of Edith and Rembert T. Gladin Sr. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Gladin; son, Ray Fairchild; daughter, Sabrina Fairchild; and three granddaughters, Ali, Cari and Alyssa.
Jack studied chemical engineering at Rose Polytechnic Institute in Terre Haute, Ind. In 1951, Jack enlisted in the Navy where he served as a Navy photographer on the Admiral's Atlantic Fleet in Norfolk, Va. His assignments included most everything that the Navy or Marine Corps sailed the sea on, and most everything that flew in the air.
After his military years, Jack worked as a commercial photographer. He then moved to the University of Illinois as a motion picture photographer for Sport Information. He was also the assistant manager of the Main Campus of the University of Illinois Photographic Service Department. Later he moved on to become manager of the Photographic Department of the Engineering Campus, where he worked until he retired from the university in 1995.
Jack was a proud member of the Masons for over 64 years, serving as the Illinois State Historian for seven Grand Masters. He received the DeMoley Legion of Honor in 2004 and Mason of the Year of the Grand Lodge of Illinois in 2011.
Masonic services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, followed by a memorial visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy.
