HUME – Charles Alfred Hochstetlor Jr., 93, of Hume passed away at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday (June 14, 2016) at Paris Healthcare Center in Paris, Ill.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday (June 17, 2016) at Joines Funeral Home, 401 W. Gillogly St., Newman, with the Rev. Gene Creek officiating. Burial will be in the Young America Cemetery, north of Hume. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with Eastern Star services at 7:30 p.m. and Masonic services at 7:45 p.m.
Charles was born May 16, 1923, in Lovington, a son of Charles Alfred and Floy Burchard Hochstetlor. He married Joetta Snyder on Feb. 12, 1983. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Sue (Jim) Hite of Mattoon; one stepdaughter, Desiree (Pat) Rhode; two stepsons, Randy (Leigh) Snyder of Metcalf and Terry (Donna) Rhode of Hume; one grandson, Jim Hite; six stepgrandchildren, Brian Rhode, Hilary Rhode, Jaye Sanstrom, Kayla Combs, Shana Snyder and Meghan Bowyer; two great-grandchildren, Colin Hite and David Hite; four step-great-grandchildren, Baylee Rhode, Chase Rhode, Layke Sanstrom and Anchor Sanstrom; and one brother, Jim (Jeanne) Hochstetlor of Austin, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Betty Smith; one stepson, Jim Snyder; two step-great-grandsons, Paul Rhode and Peyton Rhode; and two step-great-granddaughters, Mary Katherine Snyder and Bethany Rhode.
Charles was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1946. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1987.
He was a member of Edgar Lodge 829, Decatur, and Paris Chapter 7, Order of the Eastern Star; past grand patron of Eastern Star of Illinois; a life member of Mattoon VFW Post 4325; and a member of Roth Williams American Legion post, Hume
