CHAMPAIGN – Darrell B. Erickson, 90, of Champaign passed away at 9:50 a.m. Sunday (Dec. 6, 2015) at the Champaign-Urbana Regional Rehab Center in Savoy.
He was born April 12, 1925, in Foosland, to Bert and Ethel Erickson. He married Dorothy Curtis in 1944, and she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Donna Gramlich, in 2006; one infant son; one brother; and one sister.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1944 to 1948. He was wounded in action at Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima by Japanese machine-gun fire. He was then employed at Worden-Martin as general service manager from 1949 until his retirement in 1999 and continued to work part time for many years.
He was a 50-year Freemason with the Western Star Lodge No. 240 in Champaign, a member of the Scottish Rite in Danville and was also with the Mohammed Shrine Temple in Peoria.
Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2015, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy. Funeral services will follow at 10:30 a.m. with a Masonic service and Pastors Richard McGuire and B.J. Tatum officiating. Interment will be at Drummer Township Cemetery, Gibson City.
