PAXTON – Richard I. Berner, 72, of Paxton peacefully passed away at home on Friday (Sept. 25, 2015).
There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the First United Methodist Church, 210 W. Center St., Paxton, with the Rev. John Hauck officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
Baier Family Funeral Services, Paxton, is assisting the family with arrangements.
Richard was born on Dec. 13, 1942, in Paxton to Margaret and Robert Berner. He married Carletta G. Dodd in January 1964. They had a daughter named Danette. Carletta preceded him in death in 1968. He married Ann L. Bashford in August 1970. They had three boys, Mark, David and Danial.
Richard is survived by his wife Ann of 45 years; daughter Danette (Jamie) Luman of Texas; sons, David (Bonnie) Berner of Illinois and Danial (Sherris) Berner of Illinois; grandchildren, Trey, Carletta, Rachel, Ryan, Riley, Titus and Lilliana; and a sister, Mary (Gary) Berner Korbus.
Richard served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era. He graduated in 1971 from Southern Illinois University with a B.S. in forestry and land resource management. He did 4-H judging, was a Masonic Lodge member and taught Sunday School.
He enjoyed farming with his grandparents outside Rankin, fishing, camping, frogging, reading, woodworking, grilling and cooking. He loved older country music and was a country boy at heart. Best of all, he loved to make people laugh by telling stories and jokes over and over ...
