Floyd Doenitz - Mahomet Lodge

MAHOMET – Floyd Robert Doenitz, 82, of Mahomet passed away at 7:20 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 23, 2015) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
He was born on Jan. 15, 1933, to John G. and Florence Brewer Doenitz in Bloomington. He married Miyun Arwine on Feb. 27, 1991, in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Survivors include his wife, Miyun of Mahomet; two sons, Chris (Shereth) Doenitz of Mahomet and Scott (Terri) Doenitz of Fort Myers, Fla.; one daughter, Cindy (Pat) Spears of Peoria; one stepdaughter, Haiti (Bob) Eastin of Tolono; and one stepson, Mike (Kelly) Arwine of Chicago.
Also surviving are one brother, Don (Sharon) Doenitz of Edmond, Okla.; 17 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Elmer, and two sisters, Charlotte and Betty.
Floyd was a veteran of the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of sergeant with the 25th Division 27th Regiment Wolfhounds during the Korean Conflict, having served in Korea, Japan and Hawaii. He also participated in the Land of Lincoln Honor flight to Washington, D.C., on Oct. 28, 2014.
Floyd had farmed in the Mahomet and Mansfield area for 45 years.
Floyd was an avid collector of Minneapolis Moline tractors and he loved to travel and research the Doenitz family history.
He attended the Grace Baptist Church in Mahomet. He was also a member of the Champaign County Farm Bureau and also a member of the Mahomet American Legion Post 1015. Floyd also served as Past Master of the Mahomet Masonic Lodge 220.
He will be remembered by all who knew him as someone who never meet a stranger and was friendly and outgoing, and loved to joke and laugh.
Visitation for Floyd will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy, where there will also be a Masonic Service held at 7:45 p.m. today.
Funeral services for Floyd will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Morgan Memorial Home, Savoy, with Pastor Paul Nurmi officiating. Entombment will take place at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign.
