FARMER CITY – Donald L. "Don" Nafziger, 76, of Farmer City passed away at 10:30 p.m. Friday (July 3, 2015) at Heritage Health, Bloomington.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City, with Pastor Jeremiah Thompson officiating. Private family inurnment following the service will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Farmer City, with military rites accorded. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Community Cancer Center, 407 E. Vernon Ave., Normal, IL 61761.
Don was born on Oct. 7, 1938, at Paxton, a son of Ralph and Norma Smith Nafziger. He married Ruth Ann McIntyre on June 17, 1960, in Farmer City.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Nafziger of Farmer City; son, Todd (Shelli) Nafziger of Roanoke, Ill.; two grandchildren, Kelsey Nafziger and Klay Nafziger; mother, Norma Nafziger of Paxton; and sister, Janis (Dick) Keyser of Roscoe, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Don had been a manager for Wickes Lumber Company in Farmer City, Hillsboro, Ind., and Tolono, retiring with 31 years service.
After retirement, Don worked for Maxwell Counters in Farmer City for several years.
Don served in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier Intrepid as a radio repair specialist.
He attended the Farmer City United Methodist Church. Don was a former member of the Woodlawn Country Club, Farmer City, and a member of the Paxton Masonic Lodge 416, Paxton.
Don was an avid Chicago Cubs fan, golfer, and No. 1 sports fan of his grandchildren and attended their events up until his time of death.
Don will be greatly missed by all his family and friends, including his four-legged friend, Frankie.
