RANTOUL – Roger "Buck" Buchholz, 81, of Rantoul passed away at 2:41 a.m. Tuesday (March 31, 2015) at Danville Patriot Place, Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
A celebration of life service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Rantoul Christian Church, north Maplewood Drive, Rantoul. The Rev. Wesley Miller will officiate.
Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.
There will be a burial of ashes at a later date in the Danville National Cemetery.
Lux Memorial Chapel is handling the arrangements.
Mr. Buchholz was born Aug. 28, 1933, in Wisconsin, a son of Alfred and Marion Buchholz.
Surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Lyons of Rantoul and Kimberly Buchholz; two grandchildren, Roger (Heather) Lyons and Kenneth (Mandy) Lyons; and four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Peyton, Kiersten, Gavin and one on the way very soon. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and was stationed in Japan. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Rantoul, American Legion and VFW.
Mr. Buchholz was employed at Chanute Air Force Base as a civilian. He taught weather equipment and avionics and was a supervisory training specialist. He also worked at Walmart for 16 years.
He enjoyed gardening, fishing and supporting the Cubs. He loved his family, friends and his church.
