DANVILLE – Billy Atwood, 87, of Danville passed away Wednesday (April 22, 2015) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
He was born Jan. 6, 1928, to Howard and Olive Louise (White) Atwood. He married Betty Bloomfield on March 22, 1946. She survives.
Bill is survived by three daughters, Vickie (Tom) Edwards of Danville, Debbie (George) Burnett of Danville and Sherrie (Ron) Shoemaker of Danville; seven grandchildren, Craig (Shelly) Edwards, Kimberly (Vince) Savage, Eric (Tobi) Burnett, Shawn (Jennifer) Burnett, Shanna (Shawn) Flynn, Clay "Bubba" Shoemaker and Rosa (Brandon) Lee; and 12 great-grandchildren, Sadie Edwards, Tyler and Abbie Knight, Andy and Thomas Savage, Bryce and Brennan Burnett, Colin and Ethan Burnett and Chloe, Ella and Palmer Flynn.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Judith Kay; and a sister, Beatrice June Corder.
Bill enjoyed farming, camping, grilling out and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed riding horses, attending rodeos and watching RFD-TV. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially on Sunday afternoons.
He was a member of Cedar Grove Nazarene Church and the Moose Lodge, and was a 33rd Mason. He was a carpenter and a 60-year member of Carpenters Lodge Local 269. He was an Army veteran.
Memorials can be made in Bill's name to the American Heart Association, the American Alzheimer's Association or Cedar Grove Nazarene Church.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held at Sunset Funeral Home in Danville, a Life Celebration Home, at 11 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2015. Burial will follow at Johnson Cemetery, near Danville. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the funeral home on Monday, April 27, 2015.
