ARTHUR – Duane E. "Brownie" Powell, 88, of Arthur, formerly of Lovington, passed away at 5:20 p.m. Thursday (March 26, 2015) at McKinley Court, Decatur.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Lovington. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Keller Cemetery, Lovington.
Memorials may be made to the Lovington United Methodist Church, Lovington.
Brownie was born on Sept. 6, 1926, in Arthur, the son of Nelson Earl and Alta (Jenne) Powell. He married Jane Elizabeth Francis on March 15, 1947, in Lovington. She preceded him in death on Jan. 1, 2004.
He retired from Archer Daniels Midland with 37 years. He was a member of the Lovington United Methodist Church, Lovington. He was also a member of the Arthur Masonic Lodge 825 for 60 years, Lovington American Legion Post 429 for 65 years, and the Arthur VFW Post 479. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and served from 1944 to 1946.
He was Chicago Cubs No. 1 Die Hard Fan. Brownie took his seat in the ultimate skybox on Thursday (March 26, 2015).
He is survived by his son, Michael Duane (Barb) Powell of Troy; daughter, Jody Jane (Robb) Stahl of Decatur; grandchildren, Jason (Kelli) Powell, Matt (Nicole) Powell, Christy (Eric) Youngblood and Tara Jane (Chad) Murray; four great-grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, brother and sister.
