Jack Harris McNussen - Villa Grove-Camargo

VILLA GROVE – Jack Harris McNussen of Villa Grove died on Wednesday (Feb. 25, 2015) at Heartland Health Care, Champaign
He moved to Villa Grove with parents and siblings while young and graduated Villa Grove High School with the Class of 1937.
He married his lovely high school sweetheart, Thelma Phillips, on Oct. 30, 1941, in Bowling Green, Mo.
She survives, along with a daughter, Susan (Ron) Hage of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Eric (Cynthia) McNussen of Champaign; and grandchildren, Allison West, Lara Hage, Alex (Shandra) Hage of Colorado Springs, Colo., Amanda McNussen of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Emma McNussen of Champaign.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Marlatt of Villa Grove and Mrs. Florence Netski of Las Vegas, Nev., along with many nieces and nephews and many friends and acquaintances.
Jack was preceded in death by two brothers, two half brothers and two half sisters.
In 1941, Jack began working for the Chicago and Eastern Illinois Railroad. That same year he became the first man from Douglas County to be drafted into military service at the start of World War II. He served for four years in the U.S. Army, three of those years in the China, Burma, India theater of operations. In later years, he and Thelma enjoyed attending CBI reunions in Paoli, Ind.
He worked for the C&EI Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1981. During those years, in time off he loved to hunt and to play golf. After retirement, he and Thelma also enjoyed RV traveling between Bartow, Fla., and Villa Grove.
Jack was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, VFW Lodge, the Masonic Lodge and was a charter member of the Tri City Country Club where he assumed the responsibilities for management from 1966 to 1969.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, with Pastor Duane Piercy officiating, at Joines Funeral Home, Illinois 130 South, Villa Grove. Burial with military rites by the Villa Grove VFW Post 2876 will be in the Villa Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday with Masonic rites by Villa Grove-Camargo Masonic Lodge at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials in honor of Jack may be made to the Villa Grove High School Alumni Association Scholarship Fund or to an organization of the donor's choice.
