CHAMPAIGN – Services to celebrate the life of Arthur Lee Stroud, 87, of Champaign are scheduled for noon Tuesday, Jan. 27, at Mount Olive Baptist, 808 E. Bradley Ave., Champaign, with the Rev. Keith L. Thomas officiating.
He will await the resurrection in Lincoln Memorial Gardens in Urbana. His remains will be placed in repose two hours prior to the services Tuesday at the church, with Masonic rites being conducted at 11:30 a.m.
Mr. Stroud was born Oct. 10, 1927, in Auburn, Ala., a son of Jack and Hmor Stroud. He married the love of his life, Lucy Echols, in Auburn on Oct. 22, 1949. She's been awaiting him in Glory since Oct. 17, 2004.
They moved to Champaign in the early 1950s and shortly afterward became members of Mount Olive Baptist Church.
He was proud himself in being a hard worker; he retired from Chanute Air Force Base after 30 years as a cook, Eisner Foods after 20 years and worked part time for the Parker and Son Funeral Home.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Shriner, member of the Blue House and the Sudan Temple No. 18.
Mr. Stroud transitioned peacefully at 11:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015.
He's survived by five children: Ernestine Stroud Marshall (Cleveland), Juanita Stroud, Limor Stroud, Richard Stroud and Mary Stroud; grandson, Bobby L. Stroud; brother-in-law, James Echols; and godsons, Dion Jackson and Tony Jackson.
Ministry of comfort was provided by Perry's Twin City Mortuary Service of Champaign.
