DEMOREST, Ga. – Arthur Eugene "Gene" Hill, 84, of Demorest, Ga., passed away on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015.
Mr. Hill was born Oct. 18, 1930, in Newman to the late Arthur Benjamin Hill and Verdella Louise Howard Hill. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hill was preceded in death by his wife, the former Ruth Eleanor Wilson, and his sister, Betty Eddy.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Clarkesville. Mr. Hill was also a life member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Valley of Danville in Illinois, as well as a member of the Ansar Shrine, Oasis of Springfield, Ill.
He worked for the Illinois Central Railroad, first as a telegrapher and later as a clerk in Champaign. Mr. Hill retired as first sergeant from the U.S. Army, Illinois National Guard on Oct. 10, 1990.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Candace and Orville Hudson, and Barbara and Dan Alexander; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Andra and Tom Knecht; brother, Dean Hill; as well as seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Ga., with the Rev. Brian Butler and the Rev. Phillip DeMore officiating.
