MONTICELLO – Jerry Allen Brazelton, 83, of Monticello passed away Saturday morning (Dec. 20, 2014) at Presence Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
Jerry was born May 18, 1931, in Urbana, the son of John and Ruth Carter Brazelton. He married Beverly Ann McCormick on Jan. 26, 1952, in Indiana. They were married for 62 years.
Jerry is survived by his wife Beverly and four children, Joyce (Harry) Munster, Janice (Jim) Donaldson, Judy (Troy) Arney and Jerry Russell (Leanne) Brazelton, all of Monticello.
He is also survived by grandchildren, Jerry Scott Donaldson, Stacey (Mark) Mueller, Ashley (Josh) Mohr, Rachel (Tom) Drake, Stephen (Shawna) Donaldson, Jessica Brazelton, Daniel (Dana) Arney, Lydia Brazelton and Melissa Munster. Great-grandchildren are Kathryn and AJ Donaldson, Landon and Jaxon Mohr, Tytus Drake, Calvin Mueller, and Ava and Amelia Donaldson.
Also surviving are his sisters, Kathryn Kelley of Philo and Betty Steele of Urbana; and brother, George Brazelton of Neoga. He has many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Joseph and Jewell Brazelton.
Jerry attended school in Philo. He then enlisted in the Army and was a decorated Korean War veteran.
He worked for General Paving for many years, then Champaign Asphalt before retiring. Jerry also served on the Sangamon Township board and the Piatt County Board from 2002 to 2012.
He was a member of Carpenters Union Local 44, Fraternal Masonic Lodge 58, Monticello VFW and the National Rifle Association.
Jerry was a fur buyer for many years. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, raising chickens and cattle and watching the birds outside his patio door.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Mackey-Wright Funeral Home, with Masonic rites at 11 a.m. and funeral services following the Masonic rites. Inurnment will be in Ingram Cemetery in Centerville.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the family.
