CHAMPAIGN – E. Leland Walker, 90, of Champaign passed away at Heartland Health Care Center on Saturday (Dec. 6, 2014).
Leland was born March 7, 1924, in Fairfield, a son of Charles Perry and Glenna M. Walker. He married Betty Sides on Feb. 10, 1946, in Champaign.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Sherrill VanDyke (James) of Elbing, Kan.; sister, Marilyn Olivier (Edward) of Decatur; and four granddaughters, Kristi Williams (Michael), Tammi VanDyke, Heidi VanDyke and Angela Walker.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Leland Newell; two brothers, Verne and Noel; and one sister, Myrtle Pierson.
Mr. Walker farmed in the Mahomet area six years, worked in the Champaign post office six years and was a self-employed general contractor until retiring in 1989.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Champaign at Savoy, Mizpah Shrine 11 and Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, and a 50-year member of Western Star Lodge 240 AF&AM and Danville Scottish Rite. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, at the First Baptist Church of Champaign at Savoy with Pastor Randy Gauger officiating. Masonic rites will be accorded. Burial will be private.
