MAHOMET – William K. Smith Sr., 92, passed away on Monday (Nov. 24, 2014) at Heritage Health Therapy & Senior Care, Gibson City.
He was born in Danville on July 10, 1922, the son of Joseph and Irena Smith. He married Henrietta (Hattie) Smith on June 15, 1947. She preceded him in death in 2007.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob, Richard and Jim; and sister, Helen.
Bill is survived by his children, William K. (Bonnie) Jr. of Mahomet and Robert L. (Jenny) of Antigo, Wis. Also surviving is his grandson, Kenneth R. (Sarah) Smith of Mahomet.
Mr. Smith attended Danville schools. He served in the U.S. Army as a military police officer during World War II.
He was a member of First Christian Church, Champaign, Mahomet Masonic Lodge 220 AF&AM, Urbana Masonic Lodge 157 AF&AM, Valley of Danville Scottish Rite, and Plumbers & Steamfitters Local 149.
Bill was employed by the University of Illinois as a union plumber. He retired in 1984 after 30 years of service.

Owens Funeral Home will conduct a graveside funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign. Pastor Megan Thompson will officiate. Military burial rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 1015.
