FAIRMOUNT – Richard Schomburg, 76, prominent and longtime Danville area businessman, owner of the former Schomburg & Schomburg Construction Co., passed away at 2:45 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 13, 2014) at the Hawthorne Inn in Danville.
Richard was born Jan. 2, 1938, in Champaign County, to Earl Richard and Portica Elizabeth Parrish Schomburg. He married Barbara Cofoid on Dec. 28, 1978, in Reno, Nev. Barbara passed away July 25, 2013.
Survivors include one son, Mark Schomburg of Houston, Texas; one daughter, Susan Kitts of Denton, Texas; three brothers, Kenneth Schomburg of Terre Haute, Ind., Gary Schomburg of Terre Haute, Ind., and James (Cindy) Schomburg of Williamsport, Ind.; two sisters, Carol (Tom) Smoot of Catlin and Helen Clapper of Arizona; and four grandsons, Jake Schomburg, Kyle Scholmburg, Matthew Kitts and Alex Kitts.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Calvin.
Richard served in the U.S. Army. He operated his construction company in Danville for over 30 years. He was a 32nd-degree Mason and a member of the Ansar Shrine. Richard enjoyed wild game and safari hunting all over the globe.
Private services with Masonic rites were held Monday at Robison Chapel in Catlin. The Rev. Mike Roberts officiated. Burial was in the Davis Cemetery west of Fairmount.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Hawthorne Inn and Harbor Lights Hospice for the wonderful care Richard received.
