CHAMPAIGN – George R. Vaughn, 76, of Champaign died at 6 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 15, 2014) at home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, 2014, at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana, the Rev. Steve Diehl and Rev. Phil McGarvey officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign, with military rites conducted by American Legion Post 71, Urbana. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Masonic rites conducted at 8 p.m. by Western Star Lodge 240 AF&AM.
Mr. Vaughn was born on Jan. 9, 1938, in Champaign, the son of George and Celeste Wilson Vaughn. He married Donna Young on Nov. 8, 1959, in Champaign; she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters; Vicki (Alan) Halberstadt of Champaign, Pam (Marty) Joop of Mahomet and Julie (Chuck) Twombly of Mahomet; four granddaughters, Mackenzie Joop, Sarah Halberstadt, Celeste Twombly and Hallie Twombly; and one brother, Robert "Luke" Vaughn of Urbana.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.
Mr. Vaughn was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He and his wife owned Dick Young Electric in Champaign for many years.
Mr. Vaughn was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Champaign, where he served as a deacon. He also was a member of Western Star Lodge 240 AF&AM, Champaign, AASR Valley of Danville, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, National Electrical Contractors Association, Lake of the Woods Golf Club and Grasshoppers golf.
He loved spending time with his girls and afternoons with his brother Luke. He enjoyed the fellowship of his brothers in Christ at the men's Bible study. He knew no stranger and always had a story to tell. He also enjoyed golfing and reading.
