HOOPESTON – Donald F. Field, 87, of Hoopeston passed away at 5:35 a.m. Friday (Nov. 7, 2014) at Heritage Health in Hoopeston.
Mr. Field was born on July 6, 1927, in Prairie Green Township, the son of Chester and Mabel (Finch) Field. He married Donna McVicker on March 16, 1955, at the Hoopeston United Methodist Church. She survives.
Also surviving are their three children, Barry Field of Franklin, N.C., Brian (Jackie) Field of Hoopeston and Jeanne (Tim) Holley of Tulsa, Okla.; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Marilyn Field; daughter-in-law, Colleen Field; three brothers; and three sisters.
Mr. Field graduated from Wellington High School in 1945. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from 1946-1947. Mr. Field worked for Alltel Telephone Co. in Hoopeston for 40 years, until he retired in 1989. After retiring, he helped his nephew farm.
He was a member of the Hoopeston United Methodist Church, American Legion Post 384, Hoopeston Masonic Lodge and Hubbard Trail Golf Course, a past member of VFW Post 4826 and a coach for Little League baseball. He enjoyed golfing, traveling to Texas and Florida, visiting with his friends at the Legion and spending time with his family.
A memorial service for Donald F. Field will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014, at the Brown-Alkire Funeral Chapel, with Steve Unger officiating. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. According to his wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be held at Floral Hill Cemetery at a later date.
