ROBERTS – Jack D. Moody, 77, of rural Roberts died at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 30, 2014) from injuries received in an auto accident
at Route 54 and 1000 North Roads, Melvin.
His funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, at the Melvin United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Paula Wallace and Father T.J. Freeman officiating.
Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the church before the service.
Mr. Moody was born Jan. 12, 1937, in Melvin, a son of Lawrence Dale and Marietta Jane (Hammerlund) Moody. He married Lynnette Murduck on June 5, 1966, in Champaign. She survives.
Also surviving are two sisters, Jane Ann (Jack) Super of Beaver Falls, Pa., and Sandra Lou Burton of Marion, Ind.; and a sister-in-law, Linda Moody of Melvin. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews whom he adored.
Jack was preceded in death by his son, Matthew; his brother, Michael; and his parents.
Jack was a union carpenter for Local 44 in Central Illinois. He also was a carpenter in Florida.
After retiring from carpentry, he worked for Lee Farms and Excavating where he was currently employed.
He was a woodworker and master craftsman, and he enjoyed fishing and roller skating. He was an active NRA member, a Mason and he was very proud of his Scottish heritage.
Memorial tributes may be made to the Melvin-Roberts Fire Department or to an organization of the donor's choice.
