CHRISMAN – Dennie J. Knight, 68, of Chrisman passed away on Wednesday (Oct. 8, 2014) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
Dennie was born Sept. 9, 1946, in Paris, Ill., to Jesse Wood Knight and Mildred Bell Knight. He married Merrilee Anderson on Aug. 21, 1971, in Sandwich, Ill.; she survives.
A lifelong resident of the Chrisman area, Dennie owned Knight Insurance Services Inc. since 1979.
He was a member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge 148, Edgar County Shrine Club, Sons of the American Legion Post 477, FarmHouse Fraternity, and proud alumnus of the University of Illinois. He also served as a past FFA state vice president and on the Georgetown Fair Board.
Dennie was active in the community and enjoyed working with the Chrisman Athletic and Academic Booster Clubs, the Chrisman Economic Development Committee, and he helped organize the Chrisman 125th Anniversary Celebration.
Dennie always greatly enjoyed family and friends. He was a lifelong outdoorsman, as well as a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the UI Fighting Illini.
He is also survived by two sons, Mathew J. Knight (Sara) of Kildeer, Ill., and Lucas Ray Knight (Brooke) of Chrisman; and three grandchildren, Ella, Anderson and Piper.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at Krabel Funeral Home in Chrisman, with a memorial service at 6:30 p.m. with Masonic rites to follow.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Edgar County Shrine Club.
