CHAMPAIGN – Charles D. Johnson, 78, of Champaign passed away at 12:05 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 25, 2014) at his home.
He was born on June 16, 1936, in Edwards County to Albert and Ona Ibbotson Johnson. He married Marilyn Orr in Mattoon on Feb. 1, 1959, and she survives.
Also surviving are one son, Robby Johnson of Champaign; and one daughter, Becky (Dr. Jim) Lindbom of Kewanee. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Lindsey Johnson of Rantoul and Garrett Johnson of Foosland, Taylor, Jon, Jack and Justin Lindbom, all of Kewanee.
Charles is also survived by one sister, Kathryn (Myrl) Chaplin of Pesotum; one sister-in-law, Opal Johnson of Pekin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Glen Johnson.
Charles was employed at the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District for many years prior to his retirement, and prior to that was employed at Manny and Martin TV and Appliances.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Moose Lodge and was an avid bowler and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Visitation for Charles will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at the Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Janesville Cemetery in rural Mattoon.
Memorials may be directed to the scholarship fund at the University of Illinois School of Medicine.
