CASEY – Doyle Gene "Shake" Beeson, 87, of Casey, formerly of Hillsboro and Fillmore, passed away at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday (June 3, 2014) at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Coles County.
He was born May 6, 1927, in Ratliff City, Okla., the son of Johnie Beeson and Audrey Bailey Beeson. On Oct. 23, 1947, he married Barbara Aileen Patterson in Brownstown, Ill.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Barbara Beeson of Casey; daughter, Shirley Whitten and husband Jerrell of Ramsey and Deborah Wygal of Hillsboro; sons, John Beeson and wife Sally of Witt, Nate Beeson and wife Lydia of Greenup, Victor Beeson and wife Lori of Camargo, and Vincent Beeson and wife Debra of Tuscola; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and six great-great-step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Merle Beeson; and sister, Genevieve Flowers.
Shake was a 1945 graduate of Brownstown High School. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran, serving on the USS Haverfield DE 393 and the USS Cockrill DE 398.
Doyle retired after 38 years as an agent operator for Norfolk Southern Railroad.
He was a member of the Moriah Church of God in Moriah, the American Legion, the VFW and the Masonic Lodge in Fillmore. Shake's hobbies included crossword puzzles and gun collecting and he was always a practical joker.
Funeral services will be conducted at noon Saturday, June 7, at Markwell Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Lakins officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Cemetery, south of Casey, with graveside military rites by the Casey VFW and Hazel Dell American Legion.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday prior to the service at Markwell Funeral Home, 200 N. Central Ave., Casey.
Memorial donations may be made to the Moriah Church of God, 4890 N. 370th St., Casey, IL 62420.
