CLINTON – William E. "Bill" Martin, 92, of Clinton passed away at 12:07 a.m. Wednesday (May 7, 2014) at Manor Court in Clinton. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with Rev. Doug Lowery and J. Kent Hickerson officiating. Burial will follow in Monticello Township Cemetery, Monticello. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 7:30 p.m.
Bill was born on Jan. 10, 1922, at Monticello, the son of Elbert and Bertha (Cooley) Martin. He married Dorothy Gail Musick on May 26, 1944, at White Heath. She passed away on Sept. 15, 1997.
Surviving are his son, Steven R. "Randy" (Brenda) Martin of Clinton; daughter, Bonita (Jeff) Amenda of Monticello; grandchildren, Bryan (Barb) Martin of Clinton, Brooke (Josh) Weiss of Clinton and Kenneth (Heather) Amenda of Rantoul; and great-grandchildren, Kole, Kolby, Kloe and Austin.
Also surviving are his sisters, Imogene Smith and Bernice Anderson, both of Monticello, and Joanne Nickleson of Omaha, Neb.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, LaVerne Connell and Mary Olivero; and brother, Elbert Martin Jr.
Bill farmed his entire life. His favorite pastime was talking on his ham radio, on which everybody knew him as W9ZWT.
He was a member of Shiloh Chapel in Weldon, Illinois Flying Farmers, the DeWitt County Farm Bureau and the DeWitt Merit Board.
Bill was also a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 871 A.F. & A.M., Ansar Shrine and the Bloomington Consistory.
