HOOPESTON – Junior Eugene "Gene" Polson, 68, of Hoopeston passed away at noon Sunday (May 18, 2014) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
He was born March 21, 1946, in Danville, the son of Earnest and Sarah (Crabtree) Polson. He married Janice Coon on Feb. 6, 1966, at the First Christian Church in Hoopeston. She survives in Hoopeston.
He is survived by one daughter, Karen Porth, and significant other Darrin Eighner of Hoopeston; one son, Kevin (Monica) Polson of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and one brother, Leon Polson and significant other Chris Johnson of Hoopeston. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins and special friend Bob Porth.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lucille Nosler.
Gene worked at Stokely's in Hoopeston for 14 years. He was very active in the Hoopeston Jaycees, where he was a past chairman of the National Sweetcorn Festival parade and also a past chairman of the sweet corn. He was a past recipient of the Odell Crabtree Award for Rooster Jaycees.
Gene was a member of the Sons of the American Legion and Hoopeston Masonic Star Lodge 709 and a former member of the Moose Lodge.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, with Masonic rites being held at 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2014, at Anderson Funeral Home, with Terry Polson officiating. Following the funeral service, cremation rites will be accorded and burial will be held at a later date.
