SAVOY – Donald Lee "Don" Agans Sr., 85, of Savoy passed away on Tuesday (April 15, 2014) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
He was born in Rushville on July 15, 1928, to Walter and Esther Blackburn Agans. He married Geraldine Lashmett in Winchester on Dec. 3, 1950, and she survives.
Also surviving are three sons, James (Alaine) Agans of Madison, Wis., Eric (Vicki) Agans and Jay (Helen) Agans, both of Champaign.
He is also survived by grandchildren, Christine (Marc Edgar) Agans of Crest Hill, Katheryn (Adam) Agans of Madison, Wis., and Valarie Wyatt of Chicago; and great-granddaughter, Haylee Edgar of Crest Hill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Donald Jr.; and two brothers.
He was raised by his aunt, Florence Blackburn, from the age of 8. He was retired from the University of Illinois elevator maintenance department.
He was a former chief of the Savoy Fire Department and was a member of the Elks, Champaign Masonic Lodge and Savoy United Methodist Church where he was very involved with the church choir.
He also spent countless hours as a volunteer with the Carle Foundation Hospital Auxiliary. He was also an avid Cubs fan.
Visitation for Don will be held on Friday, April 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Savoy United Methodist Church, 3002 W. Old Church Road, Champaign, with the Rev. Jim McClarey officiating. Interment will be in Prairieview Cemetery, Savoy.
Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
