In his book "Freemasonry in Black and White" - Brother Charles Harper talks about the problems of clandestine Freemasonry. Though its not a topic many Masonic Brethren think about it, the issue is real. Bogus Grand Lodges and Blue Lodges are created simply because someone can buy an apron put it on and have the appearance of a true Freemason. Many of these clandestine lodges charge significant monies to be a part of the fake Masonic group.
Beware that if you have a visitor to your lodge an do not know who they are, you should ask for their dues card. If they do not belong to a regularly recognized Grand Lodge then do not admit them, period! How do you know if they are from one of the bogus lodges? Each year a directory is published by Pantagraph Printing in Bloomington, Illinois that has a listing of all regular lodges.
What makes a lodge recognized? The United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE) and the Conference of Grand Masters of Masons of North America are the key to recognition. CGMMNA has a listing on their website as well of which groups are recognized.
Take due notice and govern yourselves accordingly!
