CHAMPAIGN – William K. "Chillie" Childress, 73, of Champaign passed away at 5 p.m. Friday (March 14, 2014) at his home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive West, Savoy. Pastor Hank Sanford will officiate. Entombment will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Champaign. Military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 71, Urbana.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Chillie was born Sept. 15, 1940, at Leachville, Ark., a son of William K. and LaVeda Skelton Childress. He married Lucy Ann Shrock on June 28, 1986, in Urbana. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Cara Michelle Childress of Homer; one grandson, Cody William Beaver of Homer; and one great-granddaughter, Kylie Lynn Beaver of Homer.
Chillie served six years in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.
He worked at Bacon and Van Buskirk Glass Company from Sept. 6, 1958, until his retirement on Sept. 6, 2008, after 50 years. He was very proud to have worked for Vern, Roy and Rod, three generations of the Van Buskirk family.
He was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 71, Urbana; a member of VFW Post 630, Urbana; Western Star Lodge No. 240, Champaign; a member of Ansar Shriners, Springfield, and Illini Shrine Club, Champaign; and a member Illini Hi-Lo Wheelers Club, Champaign.
He was avid NASCAR, Illini and Cardinals fan.
He loved spending time with his family and all of his friends. Chillie was a big man, with a big personality and a big voice. He never met a stranger. He will be missed.
