Donald Thompson, 75, of Danville, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014, at Presence United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville.
Services will begin at 1 p.m. Friday, March 7, at Pape Family Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St. in Danville, with Pastor Darren Johnson officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Pape’s, with Masonic services by Catlin Masonic Lodge. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Ridge Farm, with military honors by American Legion Post 210.
Don was born Feb. 13, 1939, in Danville to Everett and Lois (Ervin) Thompson.
He attended Danville schools for eight years and later went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1964. He worked at GM for over 27 years, retiring in 1992 as a core worker.
Don was a member of the Catlin Masonic Lodge, American Legion Post 210, Eastern Illinois Shrine Club, Edgar County Shrine Club, Ansar Shriners, Moose Lodge 1001 Danville and the 40 & 8. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, listening to country music, playing euchre and watching NASCAR.
Don married Joan (Nichols) Hawkins on March 14, 1983, in Dade City, Fla., and she survives.
Also surviving are four children, Brenda Lomax (Robert), Sheila Zacholski, Dawn Hedlund (Jay) and Valerie Pichon; a stepson, Todd Hawkins (Michelle); 12 grandchildren, Ryan, Michael, Kayla, Samantha, Joanie, Amanda, Amber, Clina, Elaine, Jessica, Todd and Trevor; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Raymond (Norma) Thompson; and a sister, Betty Casey.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Beverly Claypool.
