ARTHUR – William "Bill" Carter Knobloch, 90, of Arthur died at 6:10 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 26, 2014) at St. John's Hospital in Springfield.
Funeral services with Masonic rites will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, 2014, at Shrader Funeral Home, 431 S. Vine St., Arthur, with Pastor Dennis Hanner officiating. Burial will follow in the Arthur Cemetery with military rites accorded. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service.
Bill was born Sept. 11, 1923, in Decatur, the son of Perry W. and Rhea Carter Knobloch. He was united in marriage to Anna Margaret Clausen on June 2, 1946, at the Zion United Church of Christ, rural Arthur.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Knobloch of Arthur; son, Paul W. and wife Sarah T. Knobloch of Altoona, Iowa; grandsons, Alan W. and wife Brenna Knobloch of Olympia, Wash., and Alex P. Knobloch of Altoona, Iowa; and great-grandsons, Caiden and Callen Knobloch of Olympia, Wash.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Bill was a graduate of the Arthur High School Class of 1942 and attended the University of Illinois for a semester. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Zion United Church of Christ.
He was a member and past commander of the Arthur American Legion Post 479; he served as past flotilla commander and division captain of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 28 of Arthur. He was a former member of the Atwood Grain and Supply Co.; past president of the Arthur Park Board; life member of the VFW; life member of the Arthur AF&AM Lodge 825; and member of the AASR Northern Masonic Jurisdiction of Danville, Ansar Shriners International of Springfield and Mattoon 40/8 Post 717.
Bill served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force and spent 2 1/2 years on the Pacific front.
