GIFFORD – Jerry King passed away at 7:20 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 15, 2014) at Veterans Affairs Illiana Health Care System, Danville.
Jerry was born April 29, 1936, in Steele, Mo., to Oris and Florence (Adam) King. He married Martha Stokes on Aug. 21, 1974. She survives.
In addition, he is survived by daughter, JoAnn King of Rantoul; granddaughter, Alysha King of Rantoul; son, Jerry (Barb) King of Paxton; grandsons, Jerry King of Urbana and Allen (Lindsey) King of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, Harold (Rosemary) King of Hot Springs, Ark.; sister, Geraldine (Lee) Watkins of Wardell, Mo.; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Okan of Fredrick, Md.; niece, Lynn (Jonathan) Wilson of Charlotte, N.C.; great-nephew, Zachary Wilson of Charlotte, N.C.; daughters, Julie (Bill) Burgess of Paxton and Lisa Harrelson of Lincolnton, N.C.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by parents; brother, Donald; sister, Lola; and infant son, Joseph Allen King.
Jerry retired as a Master Instructor (Civil Service) at Chanute Air Force Base; he continued working with his own King's Housing Maintenance business until he retired two years ago.
Jerry served as a Master of Rantoul Masonic Lodge 470; served as a president of Gifford Lions Club; served as a Commander of the Penfield-Gifford American Legion Post 1153.
He continued his membership in the Masonic Lodge and Penfield-Gifford American Legion. In addition, he was a member of the Valley of Danville Scottish Rite, Rantoul American Veterans and former member of the Shriners.
He also enjoyed woodworking and a variety of repair and maintenance projects.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, a donation may be made to the American Heart Association, the Champaign County Humane Society or the Gifford Tornado Relief Fund (Gifford State Bank).
