BLOOMINGTON – Jerry W. Lyon, 70, of Bloomington, a former Paxton resident, died at 3:33 a.m. Thursday (Dec. 19, 2013) at Heartland Healthcare Center, Normal.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, Dec. 23, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells St., Paxton, with Pastor Deb Domeier officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgeland Township Cemetery, Thawville.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Jerry was born Aug. 30, 1943, in Urbana, a son of William Howard and Catherine Wilson Lyon. He married Mary Giermann.
He is survived by a son, Mark (Suvanna Bernal) Lyon, Texas, and his dog, Keiko.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Harold Lyon, Robert Lyon, Pete Lyon and William H. "Sonny" Lyon.
Jerry attended Paxton schools and Lincoln Community College, Bloomington. He was the wholesale tire dealer for Meier Tires, Ashkum, and prior to that was the manager of Davis Tire, Bloomington.
Jerry was a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association, Livingston County Farm Bureau Trap and Skeet Club and the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Illinois Gibson Lodge No. 733, Gibson City. He was also a member and certified instructor of the National Rifle Association.
Jerry was a former member of the Sentral Illinois Radio Society and very involved with building and flying model aircraft. He had also been very involved in Boy Scouts of America.
