Jacob Hyland - Urbana Lodge

Jacob E. “Jake” Hyland 84 0f Urbana died at 4:58 a.m. Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Illinois Knights Templar Home, Paxton.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2013 at the University Place Christian Church, Champaign; Rev. Kris Light and Rev. Eunjoo Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Urbana with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 71, Urbana. Visitation will be held from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Renner-Wikoff Chapel and Crematory, Urbana with Masonic Rites conducted by the Urbana Masonic Lodge #157 A.F. & A.M. at 8:45 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Mr. Hyland was born on April 7, 1929 in Windsor, the son of Edward and Nellie Lovins Hyland. He married Erma Mae Thompson on December 19, 1953; she died October 12, 2002. He then married Sharon Ball Schielzeth on October 25, 2003 in Champaign, she survives.
Also surviving are one son; Jeffrey Scott Hyland of Clarendon Hills, one daughter; Judith Elaine Hyland of Groton, Connecticut, five grandchildren and one great grandson.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Mr. Hyland was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He worked for Illinois Bell as a Line Foreman, and in sales and marketing where he retired.
Mr. Hyland was a member of University Place Christian Church, Champaign, 50 year member Urbana Masonic Lodge #157 A.F. & A.M., 50 year member Hope Chapter Order of Eastern Star, an advisory board of the Order of DeMolay, U.S. Navy Cruisers Association, Illinois Telephone Pioneers Association, he volunteered at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana for many years, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, the prairielands of Illinois, he was very passionate about America and was known as the flag man for many years, a gateman at the U of I Assembly Hall and the Election Dept. for the Champaign County Clerk.
He was very passionate about his family and his dog Missy.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Urbana Masonic Lodge #157 A.F. & A.M. or University Place Christian Church.
WB Jacob Hyland was born in Windsor, Illinois April 7, 1929. He petitioned Windsor Lodge #322 on August 15, 1950, was initiated as an Entered Apprentice on September 5, 1950, passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on September 22, 1950 and raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on October 6, 1950. He affiliated with Urbana Lodge #157 on January 10, 1962 and was Master of the Lodge in 1967.

He has been the Chairman of our Widows Committee for many years and has been responsible for making it a premier example of how Widows Committees should be. In our stated meeting of Tuesday, December 17, it was voted to name the widows committee the Worshipful Brother Jacob Hyland Widows Committee in his honor.

He will be missed by the widows and his brothers alike.
