HOOPESTON – Donald Lee "Donnie" Clyden Sr., 77, of Hoopeston passed away at 3:19 p.m. Saturday (Dec. 14, 2013) at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
He was born Aug. 27, 1936, in Hoopeston, the son of Herbert Ervin and Flossie Mae (Allison) Clyden. He married Cindy Lou Rutledge on Sept. 14, 1959, in Danville. She survives in Hoopeston.
He is also survived by two daughters, Vickie (Roger) Beaty of Hoopeston and Janet Doyle of Benton; two sons, Donald (Betty) Clyden of Hoopeston and Werner (Jo) Clyden of Corapeake, N.C.; one sister, Donna Wyant of Houston, Texas; one brother, Marvin (Connie) Clyden of Sheldon; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one great-grandson; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Geraldine, Elsie, Elador and Lillian; and two brothers, Gerald and Herbert.
Donnie worked at Joan of Arc in Hoopeston, which later became Pillsbury, for 41 years before retiring in 1993. He was a very active member of the Chestnut Street Church of Christ in Hoopeston, where he served his church with countless hours of volunteering. He was also a member of the Hoopeston Masonic Lodge 709.
Donnie enjoyed raising homing pigeons, fishing and building things with his hands. He always enjoyed lending a helping hand and gave of himself unselfishly to others, but his greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Donnie was a very kind and compassionate person and will be missed by all who knew him.
A visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at Anderson Funeral Home, 427 E. Main St., Hoopeston, with Masonic rites being held at 7:30 p.m. by the Hoopeston Star Lodge 709.
The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2013, at the Chestnut Street Church of Christ, 709 E. Chestnut St., Hoopeston, with a visitation being held from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the funeral service. Pastor Sid Payne will be officiating. Burial will be in Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston.
