Blue Mound – Neil Scott Noland, 85, of Blue Mound passed away suddenly on Wednesday (Oct. 30, 2013) at Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.
A service to celebrate Neil's life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 4, at Dawson & Wikoff Funeral Home, Blue Mound. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hall Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to First Christian Church of Blue Mound (Disciples of Christ) or EAA Train A Pilot Program, Decatur.
Neil was born Jan. 3, 1928, in Decatur, the son of Charles F. and Ruth I. (Scott) Noland. Neil attended a one-room school house north of Blue Mound and was a 1945 graduate of Blue Mound High School. He was a member of FFA, Rural Youth and showed cattle in 4-H.
He attended the University of Illinois, where he was a member of the FarmHouse fraternity. Neil served on the Stonington Cooperative Grain Board of Directors for 11 years and the Blue Mound School Board. He also served on the Advisory Committees of Farm Credit Services and Macon County Ag Extension Council. He was a lifelong member of First Christian Church of Blue Mound (Disciples of Christ), where he has served as Deacon, Chairman of the Board and various other ministries.
He was a 60-year member of Blue Mound Masonic Lodge No. 682, A.F. & A.M. and served as Past Patron with the Blue Mound Order of the Eastern Star No. 327.
Neil was a licensed pilot for 69 years and was a member of AOPA (Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association).
He married Erma Mae Moma on March 3, 1950, in Bloomington.
Surviving are his wife, Erma Mae Noland of Blue Mound; daughter, Dianne Noland Negangard and her husband, Dave, of St. Joseph; sons, Duane Noland and his wife, Tina, of Blue Mound, Dennis Noland and his wife, Dani, of Blue Mound; grandchildren, Grant Noland and his wife, Logan, of Blue Mound, Blake Noland and his wife, Kristin, of Macon and Drew Negangard of Rushville; and great-grandchildren, Hudson Neil Noland and Elizabeth Maye Noland, both of Blue Mound.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, David F. Noland; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
