MONTICELLO – Lonnie Paul Smith, 89, of Monticello passed away at 1:28 p.m. on Oct. 28, 2013, at Manor Court, Clinton.
Private graveside services will be Monday, Nov. 4, at Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with military honors. There will be no visitation. Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association Greater Illinois Chapter, in honor of his son, Russell, 8430 W. Bryan Mawr Ave., Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60631-3473.
Mr. Smith was born March 26, 1924, in Lintner, the son of Paul Benedict Smith and Letha Susan Marker. He married Imogene Martin on June 2, 1946, in Monticello.
Survivors include his wife, Imogene Smith of Monticello; children, Connie (Richard) Blazier of Urbana, Michael Smith of Sullivan, Martha Vigneri of Decatur and Russell (Barb) Smith of Monticello; five grandchildren, Todd (Jen) Smith of Humboldt, Kristin (Chris) Greer of Ivesdale, Craig Wilson of Decatur, Emily Vigneri of Normal and Tim Smith of Sullivan; and four great-great grandchildren, Ashlyn, Raygen, Will and Macie.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Lonnie was a member of the DeLand United Methodist Church and the Monticello Masonic Lodge AF&AM. He was a World War II Army veteran.
He was a farmer his entire life and enjoyed roller skating, water skiing, fishing and most importantly, spending time with his family.
