James Taylor

TOLONO – James Alva Taylor, 84, of Tolono passed away on Sunday (March 3, 2013) at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana.
James was born Nov. 15, 1928, in Pesotum, a son of Glen and Lola Eveland Taylor. James was a Navy veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1948 to 1952. He married Janice Gordner on Nov. 24, 1952, in Tolono. She survives.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Robert and wife Sheri Taylor of Grand Junction, Colo., and Larry and wife Edna Taylor of Broadlands; a daughter-in-law, Alice Taylor of Backus, Minn.; two sisters, Doris Mae and husband Clarence Kaberline of Tuscola and Linda and husband Dwight Wilson of Tuscola; six grandchildren, Jarid and wife Stephanie Taylor of Sidney, Jody Taylor of St. Joseph, Cody Taylor of Denver, Colo., Ashley Taylor of Broadlands and Kirsti and Joel Taylor of Backus, Minn.; and five great-grandchildren, Jayla, Kayley, Kayden and Grace Taylor and Austin Hatfill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Brad Taylor; and a brother, Merle Taylor.
He was a member of Tolono Masonic Lodge 391, C-U Elks Lodge 2497, Tolono VFW Post 1237 and Pesotum American Legion Post 580. He also served on Tolono Fire Department for several years.
He enjoyed family, his place in Minnesota, fishing, cribbage and friends.
He worked for the University of Illinois Abbott Power Plant for 32 years, from 1953-1986 and part-time for Tolono Grand Prairie and Illini FS.
Donations may be made to the Tolono Fire Department.
There will be a graveside service at a later date. Freese Funeral Home, Tolono, is assisting with arrangements.
