HOMER – Louis E. Tracy, 90, of Homer passed away on Sunday (Dec. 30, 2012) at his home.
A celebration of Louis' life will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at Kirby Funeral Home. Pastor Raymie Gordon will officiate. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in GAR Cemetery.
Louis was born Feb. 14, 1922, in West Union, to Clarence and Martha (Collier) Tracy. He graduated from Homer High School in 1943.
He enlisted in the Army after high school and served in World War II as a communications provider for the 1090th Signal Corps in the Philippines.
After returning from his service, he married Betty Shoaf of Homer in 1945. They were married for 67 years.
Louis was employed at Illinois Bell Telephone Company in Danville for 43 years until he retired.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Connie (Jerry) Messman and Ginny Dillon, both of Homer; three grandsons, Steve (Susie) Messman, Matt Dillon and Scott (Amy) Messman; seven great-grandchildren, Kyle and Brianna Messman, Emma, Cole, and Cody Messman, and Drew and Tyler Dillon; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Louis belonged to Homer American Legion, Danville Olive Branch Masonic Lodge, AT&T Pioneers and Homer Methodist Church. He was an avid reader and enjoyed doing things for the community. He loved spending time with his family.
Memorial donations may be given in his name to Provena Hospice or Homer Fire and Rescue Squad.
