Bill Kimpling

PONTIAC – Frank W. "Bill" Kimpling, 88, of Evenglow Tjardes Health Care Center of Pontiac and formerly of Urbana, died at 7:15 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2013) at the OSF St. James John W. Albrecht Hospital in Pontiac.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Winterrowd Funeral Home, Streator. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. preceding the funeral. Burial will be in Long Point Cemetery. Services will be provided by Pastor Richard Jumper.
Bill was born June 8, 1924, in Metamora, son of Frank and Bernice (Bennington) Kimpling. He attended grade school in the Long Point area and graduated from Long Point High School. He went on to college at the University of Illinois.
His education was interrupted by his service to his country in World War II, where he served as an engineer.
After the war, Bill returned to the UI to complete his master's degree. He returned to Long Point to teach at the high school.
On Dec. 22, 1951, Bill married Ilene (Ayers) Stokes in Long Point. It was then that he accepted a position as a civil service instructor (teacher) for the Air Force at Chanute Air Force base in Rantoul. Bill worked at this position until retirement and during this time lived in Urbana.
He so enjoyed his winters in Florida, his days helping on the family farm, all activities at the UI, his nephews and nieces, taking pictures, and a good garage sale.
Bill was a member of University Place Christian Church, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, and a lifetime member of UI Alumni.
In 2008, Bill moved to Evenglow Inn in Pontiac for care and to be close to family.
Bill is survived by three sisters, Margaret Murray of Streator, Carol (Robert) Kaminke of Ancona and Alyce (John) McFadden of West Union, Iowa; one brother, Sam (Sandi) Kimpling of Streator; one brother-in-law, Donald Maxwell of Champaign; 11 nephews; four nieces; a stepson, Larry (Bonnie) Stokes of Flagstaff, Ariz.; and two stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Bernice Kimpling; his wife, Ilene Kimpling; sister, Nancy (Kimpling) Maxwell; brother, Mervin Dale "Buddy" Kimpling; two brothers-in-law, Marvin Woltzen and George Murray; a nephew, Mark Murray; and a niece, Paula (Murray) Schmidt.
Memorials may be directed to the Long Point Christian Church or to the donor's choice.
