Ron Faulkner

Ronald Faulkner

SAVOY – Ronald J. Faulkner, 79, of Savoy, formerly of Byron, Ill., died at 6:13 a.m. Monday (Dec. 17, 2012) after a courageous fight with respiratory complications from post-polio.
Ron was born Aug. 11, 1933, in Byron to Florence and Rufus Faulkner. He was a 1951 graduate of Byron High School. Shortly after high school, Ron contracted polio and was in an iron lung. In 1958, he was involved in a serious car accident. Ron courageously battled through these events as he did all things.
Ron married Margaret Hansen on Dec. 30, 1961. She preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 2005, after a long illness in which Ron was by her side as her caretaker.
He is survived by two daughters, Julie (Greg) Wellwerts of McHenry and Petrece (John) Klein of Savoy; six grandchildren whom he loved very much, Zachary Wellwerts, Marley Wellwerts, Malia Wellwerts, Gemma Wellwerts, Tanner Klein and Kylee Klein; and one sister, Linda Nason of Byron.
Ron worked for Consolidated Freightways for more than 20 years in Rockford. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Tebala Shriner. He joined the Catholic Church in 1996 to the delight of his family.
Ron enjoyed his numerous trips to California and most memorably his first trip where he and his dad drove it in record time!
Ron was a charter member of the Drag Ons Hot Rod Club where he was able to enjoy his passion for cars.
He cherished his memories of his fishing trips and fun times with John Miller, who was like a father to him. He was also very grateful to family friend, Carolyn Beyers, who helped love and take care of Margaret and helped him as well.
Thank you to his coffee friends and all his friends at County Market (East Stoughton Street) for including him in your family. He loved his daily visits for coffee and visiting with all of you. You will never know how much that brightened his days.
Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at St. Matthew Roman Catholic Church, 1303 Lincolnshire Drive, Champaign; Pastor Robert Rayson will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at Morgan Memorial Home, 1304 Regency Drive, Savoy.
Indoor entombment will be in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Winnebago, Ill., at 3 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21.
