Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2012, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells St., Paxton, with the Rev. Colleen Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton, with military honors.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 5, at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
Mr. Carlson was born March 24, 1925, at Paxton, the son of August V. and Emma Johnson Carlson. He married Donna Rose on Dec. 28, 1945, at Paxton. She died Aug. 11, 1986. On June 1, 1989, he married Maurine Rutledge at Rantoul. She died March 27, 2000.
He is survived by one son, Darrell (Marty) Carlson of Champaign; six grandchildren, Lisa (Bruce) Adwell and Brian VanLaningham of Paxton, Todd (Kristi) Carlson, Ben Carlson, Jacob Carlson, all of Champaign, and Andrew (Jenna) Carlson of Las Vegas; four great granddaughters; and one brother, Loren Carlson of rural Ludlow.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Jim VanLaningham; one grandson; and two brothers.
Mr. Carlson graduated from Paxton High School in 1943; he served in the U.S. Air Force from 1944 to 1946; and he farmed for several years in rural Paxton and was manager of the Electronics Components, Paxton, for 21 years. He owned and operated Carlson's Men's and Boy's Clothing Store in Paxton for nine years and had been employed by Ford-Baier Funeral Home and Furniture Store for 16 years.
Les was a member of First Lutheran Church, Paxton, and Paxton American Legion Post No. 150, a life member of the Paxton Masonic Lodge No. 416 A.F. & A.M. and a former member of the V.F.W. Post No. 4214. He enjoyed playing golf and gardening.
