Connie Beightler - Western Star

DANVILLE – Connie Elwood Beightler, 95, of Danville went to be with our Lord and Savior at 11:05 p.m. Monday (April 9, 2012) at the VA Hospital and Palliative Care Center in Danville.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 12, at Pape Funeral Home, 10 E. Williams St., Danville, with the Rev. Ted Pracz officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Pape's.
Graveside rites will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 13, at East Lawn Cemetery, Urbana.
Connie was born Oct. 21, 1916, in Mahomet to Earl Victor and Emma Angeline Mahin Beightler. He attended Mahomet grade school and graduated from Mahomet High School in 1934-35.
He attended Barber College in Champaign and after graduation cut hair at the Old Soldiers Home on Cunningham in Urbana.
Connie enlisted in the Army Air Corps on May 15, 1943, and served as a clerk/typist and company barber and attained the rank of corporal. He received his discharge on Oct. 4, 1945.
During his time in the military, he received one Silver and two Bronze Battle Stars, three Overseas Service Bars and a Good Conduct Medal.
After discharge, Connie went to work for Gus Belt at Steak n Shake in Normal, where he later managed restaurants in Danville, Winter Park, Fla., Indianapolis, Ind., and was district manager for the Central Florida Operation until he retired in 1973.
After his "retirement" in 1973, Connie managed Courson's Grocery in Danville, worked at Black Hardware, managed Wendy's on East Voorhees Street in Danville, served as
security guard and courier for First Midwest Bank and later was a driver for the Danville Auto Dealers for dealer trades and auctions.
Connie finally decided in 2007, at age 90, that it was time to slow down a little. Connie enjoyed his yard and feeding
the birds, particularly the hummingbirds in his backyard.
Connie married Rosemary Ruth Moews on April 19, 1948. She passed away on May 10, 1979.
On April 25, 1986, Connie married Rosemary S. Roth Nixon at Holy Family Church in Danville. She survives.
Connie is also survived by his children, Cindy L. (Edgar, deceased) Cross of Danville, Gary D. (Patricia Fairchild) Beightler of Monroe, N.C., stepson Frank E. (Garnet Kocurek) Nixon of Danville, and Janet S. (David) Marken of
Also surviving are grandchildren, Rosemary L. Brennan Frede of Merritt Island, Fla., Daniel J. (Leslie Hafner) Beightler of Monroe, N.C., Kelli Ann (Ray) Hodge of Burlington, N.C.,
Megan N. Beightler of Monroe, N.C., Melissa (Matt) Muirhead of Danville, Michelle (Jeff) Prunkard of Houston, Texas, Nathan Marken of San Francisco, Calif.; five great-grandchildren; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Connie also helped raise Albert E. Moews of Oakwood and Madeline (Ginger) Applegate of Rockledge, Fla.
Connie was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael Theodore; brothers, Delmar, Ernest, William, Raleigh, Paul and Harold; and sisters, Edna McClellan and Frances
Connie was a member of Western Star Masonic Lodge in Danville, and just received his 65-year membership certificate. He was also a member of Bahia Temple Shrine in
Orlando, Fla.
Connie was a member of Second Church of Christ, but attended Holy Family weekly with his loving wife for the last 25 years.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions can be made to Holy Family Church or St.
Jude Children's Hospital.
