TOLONO – Albert E. "Bert" Blair of Tolono passed away on Monday (April 2, 2012) at the Champaign County Nursing Home, Urbana.
Graveside services honoring his life will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at Grandview Memorial Gardens, 4112 W. Bloomington Road, Champaign, with Pastor Kerry Bean officiating. Freese Funeral Home, Tolono, is assisting with arrangements.
Bert was born March 16, 1924, in Greenup, Ill., the son of Albert J. and Lotta (Eveland) Blair. He married Julia Nell Hodges on March 25, 1945, in Concord, N.H. She preceded him in death in 2003 after 58 years of marriage.
He is survived by two sons, Bill (Debbie) Blair of Urbana and Alfred (Debbie) Blair of Florence, Ariz.; a daughter, Suzanne (John) Kamradt of Tolono; a sister, Wilma Dean Fisher of Champaign; eight grandchildren, Jackie Vodde of Mount Zion, Andy Blair of Mesa, Ariz., Vicki Blair of Bellevue, Wash., Michelle (Roland) White of Champaign, Heather (Heath) Hafner of Mahomet, Jason (Shanelle) Herman of Monticello, Jeremy (Dana) Kamradt and Andrea Kamradt, both of Tolono; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Bert graduated from Tolono High School and served in the U.S. Navy as an aviation machinist's mate during World War II.
He was a steamfitter and retired from the University of Illinois in 1984.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tolono, Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 149, Tolono Masonic Lodge, and he was one of the original members of the Tolono Volunteer Fire Department.
Memorial donations in his honor can be made to First Presbyterian Church of Tolono, 104 E. Vine St., Tolono.
